Photography / Video

photo1
The Photography/Video program involves four years of concentrated study, using a variety of photographic and video equipment, processes, and techniques. Participants will be expected to produce diverse visual communication presentations. Photography students will interface with other magnet programs in the production of learning and teaching aids, and to record events which are products of the program.

The theme for the first year is "Views of the Camera", presenting a concentrated examination of photographic principles and equipment, including basic camera handling, photographic composition, camera accessories, lighting systems, photo journalism, studio photography, as well as a historical overview.

During the second year "Focus on Processing" will be the concentration, offering an in depth study of photographic processing and presentation techniques. Topics will include processing and printing techniques in black and white, as well as color; color slides; photographic display and presentation, and introduction to video. The use of technology in the photographic/video process will also be introduced.

"Color and Motion" is the theme for the third year of the Photograph/Video program. During this year the students' knowledge of previous photographic foundations is expanded to include color processes in both still and motion techniques. Further study of the use of technology in the field will be undertaken, such as video/computer interface. In addition, color fashion photography, and commercial and industrial photography will be topics of study.

The final year will focus on "Selective Exposure", providing an opportunity for independent study in a chosen area of expertise. The outcome will include the preparation of an individual portfolio and at least one piece of work for each contest or juried exhibition.
