Magnet Program Parent Support
Parent Support
Each of the magnet areas has a parent support group or a mentor program. Those parent groups that are available are: the Choral Parents' Organization, the Drama Parents' Association, the Art Support Group, the Dance Magnet Parents' Group, and the Lee Lyric Theatre Board. There is also a support group for all parents of students enrolled in the magnet program. Lee Association of Magnet Parents (LAMP) is a proactive group that represents the interests of the magnet programs with the superintendent and the school board and throughout the community. Currently we also have support from various community volunteers, businesses, and other arts groups.
As in most schools, there is an active Parent Teacher Association. It is the philosophy of the magnet program, as well as Lee High School, to embrace and encourage parental involvement in any aspect of the total school program. Just as the magnet students are actively involved in all phases of school life, so are the parents involved on many levels. They serve as members and officers of each organization, assist in fund-raising, publicity, and project organization; volunteer for set-building, costume-making, props organization; offer technological and material assistance and support; chaperone; serve as classroom resource speakers; and act as a vocal and supportive audience for all the arts programs.
A parent/guardian conference is a required part of the application process. If the parent/guardian fails to attend the scheduled student auditions and parent conferences, the student's placement offer will be revoked immediately. In addition, there is a mandatory conference for the parents or guardian each semester. If these conferences are not held, the student will not be allowed to return the next year.
We truly welcome parent involvement at our school and in all of our programs. If you have suggestions or ideas for improvement or growth in our programs, please feel free to contact the magnet coordinator.
