Creative Writing

writing1
The Creative Writing magnet is designed for students who have exceptional talent and/or interest in creative writing. The course is taught in a two-hour block and focuses on both the literary and publishing arts. All students participate in all genres of writing as well as the many dimensions of publishing -- from desktop publishing software to complete production of the Lee High School literary magazine. Beginning students learn the basic templates for successful writing in all genres, and, as they progress through the program, individualized writing projects are created that allow them to focus on the genre in which they have the most interest and in which they can realistically excel.

Students enrolled in the Creative Writing magnet study and create cine-poems, using cinematography to create visual poetry, which are shown in various venues across the region. Performance poetry and oral readings are also emphasized in the writing magnet, and students are given the opportunity to perform at both school and community events. State and National level publishing and contest venues are made available to our writing students.
