Our Magnetic Leader

Linda cropped headshot
Welcome to Linda Meigs, our Magnet Coordinator and co-teacher of Video Broadcast Journalism! Linda is a long-time supporter of the Huntsville arts scene and especially our school magnet programs. Her degrees from Auburn University in French and Dramatic Arts helped prepare her to teach French at Huntsville's first magnet school, Academy for Academics and Arts, as well as 25 years at Grissom High School, her alma mater.

Linda's passion for theatre is evident in her classroom as well as on stage.  She has performed in numerous theatrical productions (at GHS, AU and with several Huntsville theatre organizations).  She has also helped direct with Vivienne Atkins (HCCA) and with Deborah Fleischman (AAA and HCCA). Since her first experience with a magnet school as a teacher, Linda has been an enthusiastic advocate for magnet programs.  Her children, Lauren and Matthew, attended magnet schools from kindergarten through high school (AAA and LHS).  During that time, the entire family worked in a variety of capacities to support the Huntsville City Schools magnet program.

Linda is excited to be working in the Huntsville City Schools Magnet High School for the Arts and Engineering, where creativity, diversity and community are celebrated.  It truly IS a FamiLEE!

Home Page

We are happy to have you here. Lee High School is the site of both the Huntsville City Schools' Magnet Program for Creative and Performing Arts and the Engineering Magnet Program. The students in the magnet programs are chosen based on auditions from all the public schools in Huntsville, AL -- a school system with nearly 23,000 students.

You will find that Lee’s programs provide personal attention from
highly qualified staff. And no school in Huntsville provides an atmosphere of openness and acceptance like our FAMI - LEE. Our best spokesmen for the program are the students themselves, so come and see what we are doing!

The magnet program encompasses nationally acclaimed engineering, musical theatre, vocal and theatre performance programs, ties to the arts and the technological community through the individual programs, and the opportunity to study with professionals in the fields of creative writing, vocal music, acting and musical theatre, technical theater production, visual art, dance and engineering. The development of the Lee Lyric Theatre -- the combined resources of the vocal, performance, and dance magnets, the instrumental programs, and other areas of the school -- has given our students professional performing experience which has lifted them above the average high school graduate in poise and excellence of performing skills.

Lee High is large enough to offer a great selection of advanced level courses and extensive programs in all areas. It boasts strong academic, fine arts, and extra-curricular concentrations. There is a strong sense of community and a positive and friendly learning environment. Each student is accepted for his or her individual worth and capabilities, both by the faculty and staff and the students themselves. At lee High we know more than just a student number; we know the faces, the names and the dreams of our young people.
